Monaco's Vadim Vasilyev: Tottenham favourites to top group UCL Group E

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev thinks that Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to win their Champions League group.

The Ligue 1 side were in the fourth pot for Thursday's draw but still avoided Europe's biggest clubs to land with Tottenham, CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen.

Vasilyev was pleased with Monaco's draw in Group E, comparing it to two years ago when the Ligue 1 side finished ahead of Leverkusen, Zenit St Petersburg and Benfica.

Monaco faced Spurs in the Europa League last season, and Vasilyev believes that they will once again be the team to beat.

"It's a balanced group that's somewhat similar to that of 2014," he told Monaco's website. "But that's another era and another story.

"We're going to do everything we can to get out of the group and qualify. We're stronger than last season but the others are strong too. Each team will have their chance.

"We're happy because being fourth seeds it could have been worse.

"Even though they were third seeds, Tottenham seem to me to be the strongest team."
