Monaco angered by French Football League decision

Monaco have criticised the French Football League (LFP) after a request to postpone their match against Montpellier due to European commitments was rejected.

The match was originally due to be played on Feb. 14, but was postponed at short notice because of heavy rain in the principality.

It has now been rescheduled for April 7, but Monaco wanted it to be moved as they are due to play the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Juventus a week later and face six crunch games in the space of 20 days.

The LFP's decision is no major surprise given the French Football Federation earlier this month rejected a similar request from Paris St Germain to move their Coupe de France semifinal against St Etienne, but brought a strong response from Monaco.

"French football welcomes the results of Ligue 1 clubs involved in European competition and collecting points for the UEFA index," a statement on Monaco's website read.

"AS Monaco therefore deplores the lack of support from the LFP in this endeavour.

"Our disillusionment is even greater given that our request has not even had the great privilege of starting a debate in the LFP office, instead the league has unilaterally decided on the matter."

Monaco said that Montpellier had agreed to move the match.

"[Despite the decision] Monaco will make every effort to qualify and represent French football as a whole," the statement added.
