Monaco point deduction annulled

Monaco will keep all three of the points they earned with their opening-day win after the French Football League's Appeals Commission annulled the principality club's points deduction on Tuesday.

Claudio Ranieri's team kicked off their eagerly-anticipated Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-0 triumph at Bordeaux, but appeared likely to only be rewarded with a single point for their efforts following a French Football League (LFP) decision to dock them two points for a pitch invasion sparked by delight at the club's clinching of last season's Ligue 2 title.

Referee Antony Gautier was struck on the back by a fan as supporters spilled onto the Stade Louis II pitch following their team's victory over Le Mans on May 17, provoking the sanction from the LFP's Disciplinary Commission, which also suspended a further one-point deduction and ordered the club to play a home game behind closed doors.

Though the Appeals Commission upheld the decision to force the club to shut out its fans for a top-flight match this season, Monaco's appeal to the French Olympic Committee, which is due to hold a hearing on the matter on August 20, means supporters will be able to attend the first home encounter of the campaign against Montpellier on Sunday.
