Abidal could be on his way to Monaco

Monaco are poised to continue their spending spree and could add defender Eric Abidal, recently released by Barcelona, to their ranks, reports in France suggest.

Le Parisien says Abidal, 33, is a target for coach Claudio Ranieri, along with full-backs Lucas Digne and Fabio Coentrao and Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Digne has been linked with a €10 million move from Lille to PSG, but the paper says Monaco have offered the 19-year-old a bigger salary.

The Ligue 2 champions may turn their attention to Real Madrid’s Coentrao should they miss out on Digne.

Mandanda, 28, is contracted to Marseille until 2016, but Le Parisien reports that the France international could be allowed to leave for €15 million.

Monaco’s Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev has reportedly spent close to €145 million on strengthening the squad.

New arrivals Jeremy Toulalan, Ricardo Carvalho, Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao will be unveiled to the media this week.
