Arsenal head coach Unai Emery said he is unsure if Aaron Ramsey will sign a new contract but again called on the midfielder to stay at the club.
Ramsey missed the 1-1 draw with Chelsea in Dublin on Wednesday because of a minor calf problem, but a bigger concern is that he has yet to commit his future to the club despite having entered the last year of his contract.
"I don't know," Emery said when asked at a news conference whether Ramsey will sign the contract.
"It's one question for the club and another for the player. I think my opinion is clear: I want him to be with us, but then it's one question for the player and the club. My opinion is professional and is in the interest of the team."
Arsenal won a penalty shootout against Chelsea after an equaliser from Alexandre Lacazette in their penultimate preseason game.
They take on Manchester City on Aug. 12 in their Premier League opener, and Emery downplayed concerns about Ramsey's fitness ahead of that match.
"He has one little muscular pain and we decided not to start him in the match because it's maybe a big risk for him," Emery said. "But I'm waiting for the medical analysis and I don't think it will be a big problem."
Emery also reiterated that the club's transfer business could be done for the summer in terms of signings, once again dismissing reports linking the club with Sevilla defender Steven N'Zonzi.
"At the moment, I'm very happy with the players that are here with us," Emery said. "We also have others still to come, like Nacho Monreal, Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka, who will start to get minutes on Saturday.
"I am telling you that we're speaking inside and we are OK. There is only a possibility that we sign someone if it's a good opportunity."
