Embattled Arsene Wenger 'ready to fight' amid Arsenal slump

A defiant Arsene Wenger hopes that his vast experience will halt Arsenal's worrying slump and said that he is "ready for a fight."

Arsenal travel to Brighton on Sunday looking to bounce back from a second straight 3-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City, with the latest loss on Thursday leaving them 10 points outside the Premier League's top four.

That defeat, coupled with the Carabao Cup final loss last Sunday, has piled more pressure on Wenger and ramped up speculation that his 22nd season in charge could be his last.

But the Frenchman himself says he won't have any problems picking himself up off the floor.

"I'm always ready for a fight. I'm of course very disappointed, but I've experienced these situations before," he said. "I've faced difficult situations in my life, and it helps to deal with that. Experience [helps] and the desire to change things, and to continue to help the team."

Arsenal may have to win their remaining 10 Premier League matches to have any hopes of climbing back into the top four, but Wenger said he will rotate his team at Brighton in order to stay fresh for Thursday's Europa League game at AC Milan. Winning that competition now looks like Arsenal's best hope of qualifying for next season's Champions League.

"I will have to rest some players who gave a lot [against Man City] for sure. Because we play a lot," Wenger said. "The game after always has an input, and you have always that in your mind when you play so many games one after the other."

Jack Wilshere remains a doubt, however, after missing the City game with a mild ankle sprain. Wenger said the midfielder wouldn't practice on Friday, but would be in contention for the Brighton game if he's able to train on Saturday.

"We'll see how well he recovers," Wenger said.
