Arsenal must stay 'strong together' in top four chase - Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger says that his Arsenal team must stay strong as they seek to overhaul Liverpool or Manchester City in the race for the top four.

The Gunners face bogey side Stoke on Saturday, and have haven't won away to the Potters since the 3-1 win in February 2010. The game was notable for a broken leg suffered by Aaron Ramsey and Wenger has often been the target of abuse from the fans. However, he insisted that his team have to be mentally prepared for their remaining three games of the season.

"If the game is difficult for me and good for the team, I am very happy to take that," Wenger said. "I believe that I forget about that and focus on the game always. That's the most important.

"We have gone through [times when] it was not easy mentally for the players and we had a difficult environment as well. But we were united and we have to stay like that, strong together."

Victory against the Potters would keep Arsenal's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive as they look to seal a top four spot.

Last week, Wenger saw his side win at Southampton for the first time since their 'Invincibles' title-winning season of 2003-04 and wants them to continue that run at Stoke.

"We have to show the character again,'' he said. "We have to play to win the games. Let's keep the focus on the way we want to play, on our team spirit. The team is together and fights and is ready for it.

"We have to recover now physically and see how everyone recovers for Saturday. I may need to make some changes: does Laurent Koscielny come back or not? How bad is [Alex Oxlade] Chamberlain? [Hector] Bellerin is quite fresh, Koscielny has a small chance, he is not far. He trained on Tuesday.''

The Gunners have only scored on one of their previous four trips to Stoke, with home games against relegated Sunderland and out-of-form Everton to come to finish the league campaign before an FA Cup final date with Chelsea.
