Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi stays upbeat over top-four hopes after win

Shkodran Mustafi has said he hopes Arsenal have recovered from their blip in form in time to win a place in the top four.

Arsenal won 2-0 at Southampton on Wednesday to move up to fifth place in the Premier League, three points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City, with three games to play.

Manager Arsene Wenger has never finished outside the top four in a full season in charge and is optimistic that the Gunners can qualify again this season despite a run that saw them lose six out of 11 league games.

And speaking after the win on the south coast, in which Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud struck, Mustafi told reporters: "Well, I wish we found that [form] before.

"But now we have three games and we have to give everything, like we did today, to try and get everything out of all the games. Hopefully at the end we'll reach our goals.

"It was an important game and it was a tough game as well. We knew that coming here is not easy.

"It was an open game but then in the second half we managed to come out and just keep playing our game, waiting and being patient until the opportunity came."

Goalkeeper Petr Cech, who made a fine save to deny Southampton's Nathan Redmond, said: "We are aware of the fact that we probably need to win all of our remaining games to be sure we will be in the race until the last minute."
