Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has questioned Arsene Wenger's decision to leave Alexis Sanchez on the bench in the wake of Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
The London club were dealt a huge blow in their top-four ambitions when a resurgent Liverpool side tore them apart at Anfield, with goals from Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Sanchez came off the bench for the second half and immediately gave the Gunners more potency going forward, with his exclusion from the starting XI apparently due to a series of rows he had with Wenger before the match.
It was reported that the Chilean stormed out of a training session and also clashed with his teammates in the dressing room.
"I'd be thinking 'If I can't get in this team -- hammered out of the Champions League and not in the top four -- I know there'll be other teams,'" Wright told BT Sport.
"He has nothing to lose now.
"It was a strange game to leave him out of. It baffled me."
Former defender Martin Keown agreed with Wright's assessment of the Sanchez saga, claiming that Wenger's choice not to start the striker was "stunning."
Keown said: "I really can't understand the thinking behind why Wenger wouldn't want to play him. He's their best player."
Since joining the club in July 2014, Sanchez has made 91 appearances, scoring 46 goals and picking up the FA Cup winner's medal in 2015.
