Wenger hopes rested forwards will help Arsenal fight for three trophies

LONDON -- Arsene Wenger hopes his well-rested forwards will allow Arsenal to fight for three trophies in the second half of the season.

The Arsenal manager could give Danny Welbeck his first start of the campaign in Saturday's FA Cup game at Southampton, although he has plenty of choices as all of the Gunners' forwards are fit and available for the first time this season.

Welbeck has recently returned from a long-term knee injury, while Theo Walcott is also back after missing a month with a calf problem.

Meanwhile, the likes of Olivier Giroud and Lucas Perez have only seen limited playing time and should have plenty of energy as Arsenal try to mount challenges in the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League.

"The player who played the most in our team offensively is basically [Alexis] Sanchez. All the others -- Giroud has not played too many games, he is fresh, Walcott is now coming back from a good breather," Wenger said.

"So up front we have Perez who has not played many games. We have plenty of offensive potential who is fresh. It's now down to me to use them at the right moment when they are in good form and in the right way."

With so many options, Wenger could again rest Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the cup to keep them fresh for Tuesday's Premier League game against Watford and next weekend's trip to Stamford Bridge for a top-of-the-table clash with leaders Chelsea.

Because even though Arsenal are eight points behind Chelsea and face Bayern Munich in the Champions League next month, Wenger refused to accept the notion that the FA Cup represents the team's best chance of a trophy.

"People always look at it like that. At the moment we have to fight everywhere," Wenger said. "If we give up in the championsip they will say 'are you mad?' We have to fight for the championship absolutely to strengthen our position the Premier League. We have a home game against Watford on Tuesday night that is absolutely vital again.

"After we go to Chelsea on Saturday so we have absolutely 100 percent focus, and after we want to qualify against Bayern Munich in the Champions League as well."

Welbeck has made three substitute appearances since his return but Wenger said he looks ready to start again. And the Frenchman paid tribute to the England forward's mental resilience in coming back from a second serious knee injury in two years.

"He has a chance to start or to come on, yes. He looks sharp, he's worked very hard. Maybe it will be an opportunity for him," Wenger said of Welbeck's chances.

"What happened to him was unbelievable and he was down for a while. But now he looks to have recovered. In training he still lacks a fraction of zip when he starts. But overall he looks quite fit. What is the most important is that he doesn't look scared. That's the biggest hurdle when you come back."
