Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey plays down clash with PSG's Edinson Cavani

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has shrugged off his clash with Paris Saint-German striker Edinson Cavani during the teams' 2-2 Champions League draw on Wednesday, saying they shook hands after the game.

Ramsey and Cavani were involved in a scuffle after Arsenal were awarded a penalty late in the first half at the Emirates, with the Uruguay forward throwing out an arm.

Wales international Ramsey reacted as though he had been hit, but replays appeared to show minimal contact.

"Those things happen on the football pitch, but it's fine -- we shook hands at the end and it's nothing," he told Arsenal's official website.

He indicated that Cavani had made contact with his face but said: "These things happen in the heat of the moment. I've got no issues with it."

The referee took no action over the incident.

Striker Olivier Giroud converted the penalty to make the score 1-1 and the Gunners took the lead after the break thanks to an own goal by Marco Verratti.

But PSG responded when Lucas Moura's header was deflected into the net by Alex Iwobi, giving the French champions the edge in the fight for first place in the group.

A win would have secured top spot in Group A, but Arsenal now have to hope PSG slip up against Ludogorets as the Londoners travel to Basel.

Left-back Kieran Gibbs, who started instead of Nacho Monreal, said "a draw was probably what we deserved in the end."

"It's disappointment because it was a good opportunity for us to finish top of the group," Gibbs said.

"When you go 2-1 up, you want to finish it off in the second half and we haven't managed to do that.

"We wanted to perform better. When we get the ball, we can be a lot more dangerous than we showed tonight."

Fellow defender Carl Jenkinson said: "Everyone's a bit flat, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a terrible result. We just have to go to Basel and get a good result."
