Joel Campbell: I deserved more playing time at Arsenal

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell says he deserved more playing time at the Emirates but is excited about a new chance at Sporting Lisbon after joining the Portuguese club on loan.

Campbell, 24, impressed when he was given a chance to start regularly for Arsene Wenger's side last season as Arsenal struggled with injuries, but was quickly dropped once other players returned.

And he couldn't convince Wenger to make him part of his first-team plans this campaign and was instead sent out on another loan spell, having had previous stints in France, Spain and Greece.

"Based on what I did last year I deserved to play more, but now I have a new stage ahead of me," Campbell told A Bola. "I feel good and happy, it's a new experience."

Wenger has said the Costa Rica international could still have a future at Arsenal, but he faces competition from Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi
