Arsene Wenger to face former England coach Fabio Capello in Legends match

Arsene Wenger will face former England coach Fabio Capello in a Legends game in September amid the Arsenal manager being linked with taking charge of the national team in the future.

Arsenal announced that Wenger and Capello will be in the dugout for a game between retired Arsenal and AC Milan stars at the Emirates on Sept. 3.

The game, which will see former stars such as Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Robert Pires play together for the Gunners again, is being staged to raise money for the Arsenal Foundation. But the matchup of Wenger vs. Capello is also a tantalising prospect with the Frenchman reportedly on a shortlist to replace Roy Hodgson as England boss.

Wenger has previously expressed reservations about a non-Englishman holding that position, while Capello is one of two foreign managers (the other being Sven-Goran Eriksson) to have coached the Three Lions.

The FA is looking for a successor to Hodgson, who resigned immediately after England's loss to Iceland in the round of 16 at the European Championship. While they would have to wait a full year for Wenger to possibly become available, the Frenchman himself refused to rule out the possibility.

"I'm under contract until 2017. What I'll do afterwards, I don't know," he told beIN Sports. "It (the England job) is a good challenge at the moment for any manager since the team have just had two disappointments.

"I'm not talking about myself here. I think it's an interesting challenge because it's a young team that has quality players all the same and they're coming off two disappointments at the World Cup in Brazil and the European Championships here. So when things improve, he [the new manager] can only do better."

Capello took over England in 2008 and led the team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they lost to Germany in the first knockout round. He then resigned in February 2012 after successfully qualifying for that year's Euros and was replaced by Hodgson.

The Italian previously had two separate stints as AC Milan coach, leading the club to four Serie A titles and one Champions League crown.
