Arsenal signing Takuma Asano vows to 'play aggressively'

New Arsenal signing Takuma Asano says his aggression and quickness can help him thrive in European football.

The Japan striker has agreed to join the Gunners from Sanfrecce Hiroshima, although Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made it clear he views the 21-year-old as a future prospect who still needs to develop.

Takuma has five caps for Japan but is still relatively unknown in Europe, and said he is looking forward to proving himself abroad.

"I am glad that I can have a challenge overseas, which I have always wanted," he was quoted as saying by the Evening Standard. "I want to play aggressively. I want to score many goals on the pitch, performing with my quick moves and eagerness."

The forward is nicknamed "The Jaguar" because of his pace and helped Sanfrecce win the Japanese J.League title in 2015 by scoring nine goals in 34 appearances.

He has one international goal, and is expected to be part of Japan's squad at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in August.

It is still unclear whether he will be at the Emirates next season or whether Arsenal will loan him out in order to get immediate playing time in Europe.

"Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future," Wenger said when the deal was announced on Sunday. "He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years."
