Arsenal's Mesut Ozil now makes sure he doesn't show disappointment

Mesut Ozil has said that he has changed both his body language and his body since moving to the Premier League.

Ozil, 27, has just enjoyed by far his best season at Arsenal, scoring six goals and assisting 19 more as the Gunners finished as runners-up to Leicester in the Premier League.

The Germany playmaker took his time to adapt to English football, however, and has admitted that he became conscious of the way he looked on the pitch.

"Before, after a missed chance or a misplaced pass, I lowered my head and I thought a lot about it," he told France Football.

"Now I keep my head high and I try to make up for my error right away. The game goes so quickly that there's no room to feel sorry for yourself.

"A mistake shouldn't make me go out of a match. I'm paying close attention to that."

Ozil, who joined the Gunners in £42.5 million move from Real Madrid in 2013, also said he needed to bulk up to cope with the physical demands of the Premier League.

"It was essential to be stronger in the duels," he said. "After training, I do muscle-building exercises.

"I also go into ice-cold baths to have better blood circulation."

The former Schalke and Werder Bremen midfielder has a simple explanation for his huge improvement in the past 12 months.

Now in his third year at Arsenal, he puts his excellent form down to staying injury free.

"The key to my success this season was the preseason preparation," Ozil said. "For the first time since my arrival, I was able to train normally.

"And I reaped the rewards by playing my most complete season, without any physical niggles and with a certain consistency."

Ozil will be hoping to carry that form into Euro 2016, where he says only a victory in the final will satisfy Germany's hunger.

Joachim Low's side were not at their best during qualifying but Ozil is adamant that the current German squad is as strong as the one that won the 2014 World Cup.

"Absolutely," he said. "We have extraordinary potential with world-class individuals. Every one of us breathes confidence and serenity. I'm convinced that we'll play a leading role in France and that we'll go very far."
