Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain misses Man United game with injury

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out of Sunday's Premier League game at Manchester United with a knee injury, but defender Gabriel Paulista may be available.

Oxlade-Chamberlain hurt his knee in a collision with Javier Mascherano during the first half of Arsenal's 2-0 loss to Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday and had to be substituted shortly after the break.

Arsene Wenger said on Thursday that the midfielder would have a scan to determine the extent of the injury but added: "He will not be available for Sunday."

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who had recently been a regular starter on the right wing, attempted to play on after sustaining the injury but eventually limped off on 50 minutes and Arsenal are hoping the midfielder has not done serious damage to his knee ligaments.

Gabriel, meanwhile, has missed three games with a hamstring injury but was set to return to full training on Friday.

He returned home to Brazil last week for treatment and worked out separately from the rest of the squad on Monday ahead of the Barcelona game.

"He is coming back into the squad tomorrow, so we will see how he responds to that, but the signs are positive," Wenger said about the centre-back. "He might be available for Sunday."

Arsenal are looking to put the Barcelona loss behind them by completing the double against Manchester United, having beaten Louis van Gaal's team 3-0 at the Emirates.

The Gunners then have league games next week against Swansea and a North London derby clash away to title rivals Tottenham.

Arsenal and Spurs are both two points behind Premier League leaders Leicester.
