Mesut Ozil opens talks with Arsenal over new contract - sources

Arsenal are confident of agreeing a new deal with midfield star Mesut Ozil after opening contract talks, sources have told ESPN FC.

Ozil, 27, has been one of Arsenal's star performers this season and he has racked up six assists in his last six games, taking his tally to 10 in the Premier League this term.

The Germany international still has two-and-a-half years to run on his current deal after signing from Real Madrid in 2013 for a club-record fee of £42.5 million.

However, Arsenal are keen to reward Ozil for his fine form so far this term by tying him down to a new long-term deal as the club and manager Arsene Wenger look to secure the futures of his top stars before they enter the final two years of their contracts.

Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla have recently signed new deals and Arsenal are also in talks with Alexis Sanchez over a contract extension.

Arsenal have opened preliminary talks with Ozil and his representatives and the club are optimistic of agreeing the new deal as soon as possible.
