Petr Cech: Arsenal must learn to win when games aren't going their way

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has urged his teammates to take a leaf out of Chelsea's book during his time at Stamford Bridge and learn how to grind out wins when not playing well.

Cech, who won four Premier League titles during his Chelsea days, believes the Blues mastered the art of coming out on top in tight and scrappy matches.

The 33-year-old Czech Republic international said the Gunners would benefit from making sure they "do the basics right."

He told Sport magazine: "Sometimes you need to stick to the basics and forget about playing the way you want when it's not going your way.

"You need to make sure you do the basics right in every game. That gives you the platform to build on -- and then if you don't have a particularly great day you can make sure you still get the maximum out of it.

"At Chelsea we had games where we knew it was not going our way but we managed to get the most out of it, which was a great skill to have.

"It's about adapting to the situation better. If you go too much with the emotions, you can be punished."

Arsenal demonstrated their capacity for erratic form when they swept aside Manchester United 3-0 at the Emirates only days after a 3-2 Champions League home loss to Olympiakos.

Cech was rested in that match as manager Arsene Wenger brought in David Ospina, who was at fault for the second Olympiakos goal.

But he said: "Every manager wants to win every game, so you pick your team the way that you believe makes the team ready to win.

"That didn't happen [against Olympiakos], but we all win together and we all lose together.

"We need to be more consistent in the way we put a run together, and avoid the games where we switch off."
