Aaron Ramsey using Alexis Sanchez as inspiration to end goal drought

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is desperate to follow teammate Alexis Sanchez and end his goal drought this season.

Sanchez bagged a hat trick last weekend in a 5-2 win at Leicester City after failing to find the net in the opening weeks of the campaign, and Ramsey has not found the back of the net since scoring in a 3-1 win at Hull City at the start of May.

Ramsey hopes his first goal is not long in coming, and is using Sanchez as his inspiration.

"As soon as the first one goes in two more fly in straight away," he told reporters. "Hopefully now he's [Sanchez] in a good place where he can just go from strength to strength.

"Hopefully I can be there soon as well. I don't know how long it's been since my last goal, I just know I haven't got off the mark yet this season which I'm disappointed with.

"You get frustrated and then all of a sudden a few games down the line one comes and the next thing you know you're scoring on a regular basis again.

"Self-belief is a massive part of football. I might need to start showing I believe in myself around here. This is something my dad often says to me. It's a valid point. Maybe it's a little bit of a trend here.

"I'm quite critical of myself. I try to demand high standards. And sometimes that can work in a negative fashion.

"I would say that Alexis is one player who has massive self-belief in himself and he shows that every week. It's hard not to look at him and learn from him, especially in terms of his everyday mannerisms around the training ground, how he trains, plays, scores and defends from the front."

The Gunners, who suffered a damaging 3-2 defeat to Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday, face early Premier League leaders Manchester United at the Emirates on Sunday -- and will draw level on points with Louis van Gaal's side with a win.
