Arsene Wenger has high hopes for teenager Jeff Reine-Adelaide

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has high hopes that he has signed a star in the making following his capture of 17-year-old French forward Jeff Reine-Adelaide.

The deal to sign Reine-Adelaide from Lens -- who had also been linked with a move to Manchester United -- was concluded last month, with his French under-17 teammate Yassin Fortune also arriving at Arsenal as part of the transfer.

Wenger built a reputation for identifying the best young talent from French football following his arrival as Arsenal boss in 1996, with the likes of Nicolas Anelka and Patrick Vieira among his early success stories and he is evidently looking to revive that path to success with his latest acquisitions.

Remarkably, Adelaide was born after Wenger started his enduring Arsenal dynasty, with the player's birthdate hailed as a good omen by the Gunners boss, as 1998 was the year that saw the club win a Premier League and FA Cup double.

"Adelaide is a player I have identified in France," Wenger told the Arsenal website. "He just won the European Championship with the under-17s.

"He was born in 1998, which is always a good year for Arsenal... you cannot have bad players in that year!

"He's an offensive player but he can develop into an all-round midfielder as well. At the moment he plays on the right or left but I think he can develop as a central midfielder as well."

Meanwhile, Lukas Podolski has predicted that Arsenal will be in contention to challenge for the Premier League title, as he penned a letter to Gunners fans after completing a move to Galatasaray.

"Over the last three years I've had the pleasure of working with some amazing people at Arsenal, I want to thank everyone from all the staff behind the scenes to the manager and my teammates, who have all helped make London a second home to me," he wrote on a letter published on Twitter.

"To the fans... the best fans in England, who have supported myself and the team no matter what, you will forever hold a special place in my heart and I will forever be a Gunner!

"I am confident that next season the team will be challenging for that league title and I will be watching on as a fan! COYG"
