Serge Gnabry given advice by Mesut Ozil over Germany U21s chance

Mesut Ozil has advised Arsenal teammate Serge Gnabry to seize his opportunity with Germany at the Under-21 European Championship.

Gnabry became the second youngest goal scorer for Arsenal, when, aged 18 years and 74 days, he found the back of the net in a 2-1 win against Swansea in September 2013.

However, the Stuttgart-born youngster's progress at the Emirates has been stunted by a serious knee injury.

He has not played for the first team since the Champions League last-16 second leg against Bayern Munich in March 2014, although he recovered during the 2014-15 run-in and made eight appearances for Arsenal's development squad toward the end of the season.

In spite of his lack of playing time, the 19-year-old was called up to the Germany under-21 squad for the upcoming European Championship in the Czech Republic later this month.

The squad also includes Champions League winner Marc-Andre ter Stegen, World Cup winner Matthias Ginter as well as Liverpool's Emre Can and many regular starters from Bundesliga clubs.

Germany are targeting their first title since the 2009 championship, when the side including the likes of Manuel Neuer, Sami Khedira, Mats Hummels and Gnabry's Arsenal teammate Ozil as they lifted silverware following 4-0 win against England in the final.

"I recently talked to Ozil about the under-21 European Championship. He told me just how valuable the 2009 tournament has been for him, and he said that I should give it my all," Gnabry said in kicker.

When returning to the Emirates from international duty, Gnabry, who is under contract at Arsenal until 2018, hopes to live up to his pre-injury form.

"I signed for Arsenal with the dream of playing for the first team. I achieved that before my injury. And I hope it continues like that," the youngster said.

However, kicker reports that a loan could also be in the offing for the the winger.
