Arsenal's Theo Walcott unlikely to face United, Danny Welbeck a doubt

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested Theo Walcott will miss Saturday's clash against Manchester United, while Danny Welbeck faces a fitness test on Friday ahead of the game.

The Gunners welcome United to the Emirates Stadium in need of a positive result given their inconsistent start to the season that sees them trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 12 points after just 11 games.

Wenger had originally expected to be able to rely on the services of Walcott, who has made two appearances off the bench since returning from a nine-month spell out with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

However, the winger, who was part of the England squad for the recent games against Slovenia and Scotland, appears to have picked up another injury and may well now miss the United clash.

"I don't think he will be available tomorrow [Saturday]," Wenger told a news conference. "Theo could not practice yesterday [Thursday]. It is a little tight groin."

Welbeck was also part of the latest England squad and was substituted off in the 3-1 win against Scotland on Tuesday after hurting his hamstring.

Wenger says it is too early to tell whether the striker will recover in time to face his former club on Saturday, but the club will know more after he undergoes a fitness test on Friday.

"His fitness will depend on the medical assessment this morning," Wenger added.

The Gunners boss also revealed that the club would need to check on the condition of Alexis Sanchez, who arrived late from international duty in his homeland of Chile for the matches against Venezuela and Uruguay.

"I haven't seen Alexis Sanchez yet because he landed on [Thursday] afternoon," Wenger told Arsenal's official website. "We have to check him this morning [Friday]."
