Mathieu Flamini rues missed opportunity

Arsenal goalscorer Mathieu Flamini admitted he was hoping for a better result than his side's 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old midfielder collected the ball from Lucas Podolski and hooked in Arsenal's equaliser from the centre of the penalty box after 53 minutes.

City took the lead when David Silva crossed the ball in for Edin Dzeko, whose close-range shot hit the post before the Spaniard tapped home the rebound for his seventh goal of the season.

The Gunners suffered a 6-0 thrashing against Chelsea last weekend before recording a 2-2 draw against Swansea midweek, and Flamini was slightly disappointed his side again failed to deliver a victory on home soil.

Flamini told Sky Sports 1: "We wanted to win the game. It was important for us and for the fans especially after the 6-0 defeat to Chelsea and the draw against Swansea on Tuesday, but unfortunately we came away with a draw.

"We came back at half-time....we saw in the first half there was the opportunity to create some goals so we came out in the second half and tried our best. We had the chance to score a goal and we tried to score another for the victory, but we missed the opportunity.''
