Angel Di Maria urges Argentina to work through injuries

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Angel Di Maria said that although Argentina are minus key players due to injury, the Albiceleste must work through the challenges.

"We are missing important players, especially Leo [Messi] and Kun [Sergio Aguero]," Di Maria said in reference to Argentina's CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers against Brazil in Buenos Aires on Wednesday and Colombia on Nov. 17.

"But we must do our best to get the three points here and also there. Of course it is possible."

Argentina forward Carlos Tevez and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore will also be sitting out for the match against Brazil due to injuries, team doctor Daniel Martinez said on Monday.

"[Carlos]Tevez has a sprain in his right knee and [Javier] Pastore has a muscular injury to his right hamstring," Martinez said during Monday's practice in Ezeiza.

"We are evaluating them to see whether they will be in form to play."

The World Cup 2014 and Copa America 2015 runners-up, Argentina were missing Messi due to a left knee injury and forced to cope with the early exit of Aguero to a torn left hamstring when they began their journey to Russia with a shock 2-0 defeat to Ecuador in Buenos Aires last month followed by a 0-0 draw against Paraguay.

Di Maria said that Argentina need to get back to their winning ways.

"We have to switch our computer chip so that these matches come out in the best way possible," he said. "We need good results in these two upcoming matches. Getting points is going to be very important for qualifying."

Tevez did not train on Monday and is being evaluated for the match against Colombia on Nov. 17. Pastore did light work on the field.

Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain was due to arrive in Buenos Aires today.

Few teams have Argentina's depth in attack with Higuain, Di Maria, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Angel Correa and Nicolas Gaitan still available.

Argentina, runners-up to Germany last year's World Cup, have only one point from their first two World Cup qualifiers. Brazil have three from their first two matches.
