Argentina want Gerardo Martino

AFA president Luis Segura has confirmed that Gerardo Martino is in line to become the new Argentina coach.

Argentina are searching for a new coach after Alejandro Sabella tendered his resignation, and Martino -- who is out of work after leaving Barcelona -- now appears to be the sole candidate for the role.

Segura, who became AFA president following the recent death of Julio Grondona, said his predecessor had already approached Martino about leading the World Cup finalists and hoped a deal would be agreed at a meeting on Thursday.

"The plan is Martino -- a plan B for the team does not exist," Segura said outside the AFA's offices in Buenos Aires, according to Clarin. "The first approach was made by Julio. There was going to be a meeting at the weekend, but sadly that could not happen. Now I am going to meet with him."

Former Argentina international Martino had coached Paraguay to the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup.
