Anderlecht sack manager Rene Weiler amid poor start to season

Belgian champions Anderlecht have parted company with manager Rene Weiler following a disappointing start to the season.

The Swiss coach led Anderlecht to the Belgian title and the quarterfinals of the Europa League last season in his first year in charge but the club have won only two of their seven league games so far.

Anderlecht also lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League group game last week, leaving then third in a group that also includes Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic.

A club statement read: "On Monday, RSC Anderlecht and coach Rene Weiler decided to go their separate ways. The club thanks Rene Weiler for his commitment, his services and his professionalism."

Anderlecht confirmed that three members of the current coaching staff -- Nicolas Frutos, David Sesa and Thomas Binggeli -- will take over the team on an interim basis.

The 34-times Belgian champions face Westerlo in the cup and Waasland-Beveren in the league before hosting Celtic in their next Champions League match on Sept. 27.
