Oscar transfer represents a shift in world football

If reports are to be believed, Chelsea's Oscar is mere weeks away from hunting for real estate in Shanghai. Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG are close to acquiring the Brazilian midfielder for £60 million, a record sale price for Chelsea. The move shouldn't come as a complete shock: Last January, Chelsea were reportedly approached with a similar offer, for slightly less money, but either they, or Oscar, turned down the move. However, even if this transfer didn't come totally out of the blue, it still representative of a major shift in world soccer. A few years ago the idea of a contributor on a title favorite leaving midseason to go to China would have been unheard of. Now, it only ranks as a mild surprise.
