Former Auxerre coach Guy Roux has heart scare

Legendary French coach Guy Roux has been fitted with a pacemaker after suffering a heart scare.

Roux, 76, achieved iconic status within French football during a 40-year tenure in charge of Auxerre during which he turned the former boys' club team into Ligue 1 champions in 1996, making them -- and himself -- a household name across the country.

Roux, who ended his coaching career in 2005, was rushed to an Auxerre hospital on Wednesday evening and had the pacemaker fitted after feeling unwell at home.

"It wasn't much," Roux told the Yonne Republicaine. "My heart slowed down. It was only beating at 30 beats-a-minute."

Roux, who had a double by-pass operation in Paris in 2001, will now miss the trip to Albania where he had been due to work as a pundit on France's friendly there this Saturday.
