Tunisia, DR Congo both advance in African Nations Cup after draw

Tunisia and DR Congo drew 1-1 on Monday to take both sides through to the quarterfinals at the African Cup of Nations in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.

Tunisia took a first-half lead and progressed as Group B winners, but substitute Loteteka Bokila's 66th-minute equaliser was crucial for DR Congo as they squeezed through to the last eight on goals scored.

Tunisia had led at a near-empty Bata Stadium through forward Ahmed Akaichi's first-half header but both sides celebrated at full time.

Tunisia next play hosts Equatorial Guinea in the quarterfinals, while DR Congo will face Congo.

Cape Verde and Zambia were both eliminated after playing to a 0-0 draw on a rain-soaked field.

The game was played through heavy rain at Ebebiyin Stadium, particularly early in the second half. Puddles developed quickly and the field was flooded, stopping the flow of the ball. But as the rain slowed, the ground drained remarkably well, allowing for play to continue.

Cape Verde finished the tournament with three points and were in position to advance until DR Congo's equaliser in the other game.

Zambia, who won the African Nations Cup in 2012, finished the group stage with two points.
