CAF expels Morocco for refusal to host African Nations Cup

The 2015 African Nations Cup will not be hosted by Morocco, nor will the country take part in the tournament, according to the African Football Confederation (CAF).

Morocco announced on Saturday that they are no longer willing to host the January tournament this year because of fears over the spread of Ebola. They had previously asked to postpone the event, but CAF rejected that request.

Now, CAF insists that Morocco has been disqualified from the tournament as well, while a new host is sought.

Possible replacements as hosts include Algeria, Angola, Egypt and Nigeria.

A statement read: "Having firmly and unanimously notified its decision to keep the competition on the dates indicated, the executive committee confirmed that the Orange Africa Cup of Nations 2015 will not take place in Morocco.

"Accordingly, and following the refusal of the Moroccan party, the executive committee has decided that the national team of Morocco is automatically disqualified and will not take part in the 30th edition of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.''
