Emmanuel Adebayor slammed over discipline by Togo coach Tom Saintfiet

Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor has been accused of a lack of discipline by new coach Tom Saintfiet.

Adebayor, 31, has opened up about his chaotic personal life in recent months with a number of posts on Facebook and has been sent home on compassionate leave twice already this season.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Tottenham striker took to Twitter to hit back at speculation that he was about to leave the club for Turkey.

However, after the striker failed to join the rest of the Togo squad on time before their match with Ghana on Monday and, ahead of their opening African Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia a week on Sunday, Saintfiet hit out at his skipper.

"I saw him on Wednesday and Friday but he is not at the hotel," the Belgian coach told a news conference in Lome. "He is among the important players for the team but I cannot work with them when they are not in the squad. They should have the same discipline as others."

Two other Togo players, Reims goalkeeper Kossi Agassa and Bastia midfielder Floyd Ayite, also didn't make the squad on time and Saintfiet will be cracking down hard on those who don't follow the rules.

"To me, discipline is very important in life. And that's what I am already trying to impregnate in the team," he added.

"Discipline is important both for the players, the staff, etc. Discipline is everything to me. All players must be proud to be selected and accept the rules. I want each player to know it's special to be selected for his country.

"I have no problem with any player. Already I do not know everyone yet so I cannot begin to know who is who and who does what. Since we assembled on Sunday, I'm happy to have those who are there."
