ANC: DR Congo through to knockout stage after beating Angola

DR Congo advanced to the knockout stage of the African Nations Championship by beating Angola 4-2 on Thursday for their second straight win.

Nelson Munganga scored the opener for DR Congo just eight minutes into the game, and Elia Meschak doubled the advantage 10 minutes later.

The points were well in hand when Jonathan Bolingi added a third first-half goal, and though Angola scored through Gelson after the break, Merveille Bokadi quickly restored the three-goal lead.

A late own-goal capped the scoring but did little to dim the spirits of DR Congo, who join hosts Rwanda in the second round.

Cameroon also took a big step toward the knockout stage after a goalless draw with Ethiopia.

The Indomitable Lions will be through unless they lose to DR Congo on Monday while Ethiopia beat Angola and are able to overturn a goal differential of four.
