Madagascar and Mauritius moved closer to joining hosts Kenya in next year's African Nations Championship after downing Malawi and Seychelles respectively on Saturday to advance to the second round of qualification.

2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualification explained

The qualifiers for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) got underway this past weekend; the start of a not-so-long road to the finals in Kenya from January 11-February 2 next year.

Zimbabwe players, coaches and officials are suspected of match-fixing, according to documents.

Match-fixers "within and outside" the Zimbabwe Football Association targeted games in Africa's two biggest competitions and in the top league in South Africa, with the former head coach of the Zimbabwe national team one of the "chief suspects," documents seen by The Associated Press say.

KIGALI, Rwanda -- Congo won the African Nations Championship title by convincingly beating Mali 3-0 in the final in Rwanda on Sunday.

The Congolese claimed their second title after winning the inaugural tournament in 2009. The African Nations Championship is Africa's competition for home-based players.

Mechak Elia scored twice for Congo, once in each half, and Jonathan Bolingi added a third in the 74th minute to seal victory for coach Florent Ibenge's team at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Mali had controlled most of the action and missed a penalty in the first half, and they advance to face DR Congo in the final on Sunday.
