Vietnam's Hoang Anh Gia Lai picked up a second point of their AFC Champions League 2022 campaign in impressive fashion, as they came from behind to hold two-time champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to a 1-1 draw on Monday.

In their first appearance in Asia's premier club competition since 2005, HAGL have found results hard to come by despite some creditable performances.

And it initially looked as though they would be falling to a third defeat in four outings when Moon Seon-min headed home a Lee Seung-gi corner after 17 minutes to put Jeonbuk in front with his second goal in as many games.

But, as they have shown all tournament long, HAGL refused to give in and equalised two minutes after the hour mark when Nguyen Van Toan raced onto an incisive through-ball by Nguyen Huu Tuan and squeezed a shot past Song Bum-keun.

The draw handed Hoang Anh Gia Lai their second point of the campaign -- after a 1-1 draw with Sydney FC on match day 2 -- although it was not enough to keep alive their hopes of reaching the Round of 16 as they can no longer finish inside the top two of Group H.

Meanwhile, the result also allowed Yokohama F. Marinos to overtake Jeonbuk and move top following their 3-0 win over Sydney earlier in the evening.

In a blistering start to the contest, Yuki Saneto opened the scoring after six minutes for Marinos before Takuma Nishimura scored with a neat turn and finish to make it 2-0 by the 11th minute.

From there, the Japanese side never looked in danger of relinquishing their lead despite having Ryotaro Tsunoda sent off early in the second half, and they went on to seal the victory through a third from Anderson Lopes three minutes from the end.

In Monday's sole match from the three-team Group J, leaders Vissel Kobe were denied a third consecutive win as they played out a 0-0 draw with Chiangrai United -- just three days after they thrashed the same opponents 6-0.

The point saw Chiangrai open their account for the campaign but they remain bottom of the group ahead of their final game on Thursday against Kitchee, who are now four points behind Vissel but with a game in hand.
