Persepolis are champions of Iran once again after winning a record 7th Persian Gulf Pro League crown on Friday evening.

Heading into the final day of the 2020-21 season with a two-point lead at the summit, Persepolis showed no signs of nerves as a 2-0 win over Paykan -- courtesy of goals in the opeing 20 minutes by Mehdi Abdi and Ahmad Nourollahi -- secured the title.

The success also saw Persepolis set a new mark of five consecutive league triumphs, and also secures their place in next year's AFC Champions League.

There could yet be further joy for the Iranian champions on the continental stage in 2021 as they remain in the running to win this season's ACL, and will head into the knockout round as one of the favourites after a dominant group-stage campaign which saw them win five of their six matches.
