Al Nassr have strengthened their defence ahead of resumption of their AFC Champions League campaign with the signing of Ramiro Funes Mori, who won the Europa League with Villarreal just last season.

The Saudi Arabian outfit announced the capture of the versatile defender on Friday evening on a two-year deal, with the option to extend for an additional 12 months.

Funes Mori is perhaps best remembered for his three seasons in the Premier League with Everton before he moved to La Liga with Villarreal in the summer of 2018.

The 30-year-old was however restricted to just ten league appearances last season, and was an unused substitute as Villarreal beat Manchester United on penalties to win the Europa League final.

Despite their status as one of Saudi Arabia's biggest clubs, Al Nassr have not won a league title since the 2018-19 season but have enjoyed better luck on the continental stage so far this year.

Having finished top of their group in the AFC Champions League West Zone back in April, Al Nassr are through to the Round of 16 and are tipped to be contenders when action resumes in September.
