Melbourne Victory have been awarded a place in the qualifying stages for the Asian Champions League after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed the final number of participating teams for the tournament which begins in 2014.

Victory return to the Champions League after a three-year absence.

Australia were given two direct entry spots -- which will go to Western Sydney Wanderers and Central Coast Mariners -- plus one additional qualifying spot.

Victory, who finished third in the A-League last season, will enter the qualifying round early next year looking to make their first appearance in the Champions League since 2011.

"This club has made no secret of its ambitions to play consistently in Asia and succeed in that competition," Victory coach Kevin Muscat said.

"To be returning to the ACL after a few years' absence is a very exciting prospect, not only for myself as coach, but also for the players who will be keen to show what they can do on Asia's biggest stage."
