Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe hails spirit after win over Liverpool

BOURNEMOUTH -- Eddie Howe hailed his side's comeback as they recovered from 2-0 and 3-1 down to beat Jurgen Klopp's title-challenging Liverpool 4-3 at the Vitality Stadium.

Nathan Ake scored in injury time to secure the points for Bournemouth, who were two goals adrift at the break.

"I don't think I'll ever forget this one," Howe told his postmatch news conference. "It was a real contrast of emotions.

"At half-time we were in real trouble. Liverpool were excellent. We weren't very good. So that makes the comeback all the more impressive."

Howe, speaking after his 301st game in charge of Bournemouth, said his team's spirit had been retained throughout the rise that saw them reach the Premier League in May 2015.

He said: "After promotion, we never wanted to lose our togetherness, the never say never attitude and the commitment which got us into the Premier League.

"Money can harm that, but this is evidence we've maintained that spirit and, if anything, harnessed it. That bodes well."

Substitute Ryan Fraser turned the game when he was fouled for the penalty that made it 2-1 and then scored to pull it back to 3-2 before setting up Steve Cook to make it 3-3.

"He was magnificent," Howe said of Fraser, a 22-year-old signed from Aberdeen in 2013, who spent last season on loan at Ipswich.

"He's trained like that for the last three or four weeks, been patient and waited for his chance. He's a very young player and had to make a decision in his career to come to England, signing for a League One club, and that was a huge leap of faith.

"But hopefully it's paid dividends. He's got a great future."

Fraser came on after an injury to Junior Stanislas, who Howe said had suffered what "looks like a serious injury."

"He's rolled his ankle, felt something and heard a noise," he added.
