Herbert: Grand Final key battles

My A-League best to come: Reds' Jeronimo

Adelaide United's attacking hero Jeronimo Neumann scored twice but reckons he didn't play well in the A-League season opener.

The Argentine attacker says his brace in Adelaide's 3-1 win against Perth Glory on Sunday masked some deficiencies.

"For the two goals, it was good. But I don't feel like I played very good," Jeronimo told reporters on Monday.

"I know I can do much better than this. I lost many balls with my back to the goals, so this is something to improve."

Jeronimo said despite the first-up victory under new coach Josep Gombau, the Reds had much improvement to come.

Gombau, while satisfied with the result, expressed disappointment post-match with the style of the home triumph.

"He was happy with the win because ... we played 120 per cent (effort)," Jeronimo said.

"But of course we need to improve a lot because we didn't show the style that he wants."

Adelaide's attention rapidly switched to Friday night's home fixture against arch rivals Melbourne Victory, who were held to a scoreless draw in their derby against Melbourne Heart on Saturday night.

Adelaide will be without defender Nigel Boogard and recruit Isaias after both were red-carded against the Glory.

"For us, it's a very important game so we're going to play hard to win," Jeronimo said.

"We know they (Victory) play very good, they have a lot of experience and good players, so it's going to be hard, for sure."
