AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma: I'll recover from error

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has said he will not allow the mistake that gifted Pescara their opening goal on Sunday to get him down.

Donnarumma, 18, failed to control Gabriel Paletta's backpass and saw it bounce past him and into the net.

Mario Pasalic levelled, but Milan were unable to find a winner as they drew 1-1 and dropped four points behind fifth-placed Atalanta.

"I'm sorry about the mistake for their goal, but I'm sure it will help me grow," Donnarumma told Milan TV.

"It's not a mistake which is going to get me down. I'll carry on smiling.

"Pescara started well and we reacted late. We had a few chances too, but we weren't lucky.

"But we're a united group and we move on with our heads held high. All of the coming games are decisive."

Coach Vincenzo Montella said he still had his heart set on guiding the club back into European competition.

"We are creating enough chances for a club at our level, aiming for Europe, but we need to increase the percentage we are putting away," he told Milan TV.

"All I can ask from the team is conviction and the will to keep making sacrifices. I'm very optimistic that we can make it."

Only the sides finishing fourth and fifth in Serie A will qualify for the Europa League next season unless the winner of the Coppa Italia is among the top five -- as the four semifinalists, Juventus, Roma, Napoli and Lazio, currently are.

That would mean sixth place would also be enough for qualification.
