Vincenzo Montella laments more mistakes as AC Milan lose to Udinese

AC Milan coach Vincenzo Montella says his side need to stop making the mistakes that cost his side at least a point in the 2-1 defeat against Udinese on Sunday as his side's poor recent run of form continued.

Milan's latest result means they have picked up just five points from their past six Serie A games, while they were also knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Juventus last week.

According to Montella, his players only have themselves to blame and they need to start turning around their fortunes.

"If we just look at the result, then clearly something is not working," Montella told Mediaset. "We started well and perhaps we could have finished them off, but this did not happen, also because credit has to be given to Udinese.

"But we conceded a banal goal. Once again, a moment of stupidity has cost us. We were a bit stupid because we had an extra man. There are a lot of aspects we still need to improve, even if overall my lads played a good game. We just need to be more alert. We are paying dearly for our mistakes, but this will help us to grow."

Milan's recent results have seen them slip three places to seventh in Serie A, with a deficit of five points now separating them from their city rivals Inter Milan in fourth.

They host Montella's former club Sampdoria next weekend before facing Lazio, Fiorentina and Sassuolo in a series of difficult fixtures in February.
