Paolo Maldini could have asked Milan owners fewer questions - Costacurta

Alessandro Costacurta says Paolo Maldini might have been better off "asking fewer questions" amid doubts over whether he will secure a role in the new-look AC Milan.

Milan legend Maldini said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this week that he had held talks with the Rossoneri's new general manager Marco Fassone four times already about becoming the club's technical director, but he said he could not commit to the role until he knew more about it.

He said he had plenty of unanswered questions, starting with the identity of the club's new owners and the plans they have with him and the club. Former teammate Costacurta feels he should instead have accepted the role and asked questions later, saying he would be "an asset for Milan" in any capacity.

"Maldini really has the good of Milan at heart," Costacurta told Sky Sport Italia. "How could we not think that Paolo would be an asset for Milan and for football in general? His doubt is that he would like to take more of the decisions.

"Probably if I were him, I would have asked fewer questions. I think the path he should follow is step by step and certainly he feels more than ready, there's no doubt about this. I think Paolo just needs to feel a bit more wanted, but I think it's still open."

Milan's new Chinese owners, who are due to complete the takeover of the Serie A club from Silvio Berlusconi by the end of the year, are reportedly unhappy with the demands Maldini made.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, they may abandon their plans to appoint the 48-year-old rather than give him the answers he has asked for.
