Kevin-Prince Boateng calls on AC Milan to regain confidence

Carlos Bacca scored in the fourth minute to put AC Milan on their way against Fiorentina.

Kevin-Prince Boateng believes Sunday's 2-0 win over Fiorentina can restore AC Milan's confidence as they look to get back into the fight for European places in Serie A.

Milan ended a poor run of results and eased the pressure on coach Sinisa Mihajlovic as Boateng scored late on to add to Carlos Bacca's early strike.

The win puts Milan sixth, six points off Fiorentina in fourth, but the picture looks much better now than it did before the weekend began.

"It's such an important win," Boateng said on the club's website. "We can take confidence from [the draw with] Roma and [the cup win over] Carpi and now tonight. We are working well and this is beginning to show and be repaid.

"The coach prepared the team well. We know Fiorentina always have a lot of possession but we did well."

Midfielder Riccardo Montolivo added: "We needed a nice home win and to get it against a team ahead of us in the standings gives us satisfaction. But we are aware there is still much to do.

"The relationship between the coach, the staff and the players has always been good. We needed to find some serenity but we know this will come with the results.

"The performances should bring us confidence, the fans saw a good game and a lot of sacrifice from the players. Even when we were not winning we did not lose spirit."

Mihajlovic said Milan can build off the result to reverse their recent run of form for the better.

"We deserved this victory and it's a big win against a big side," he said. "A convincing win like this is a confidence boost. If we play like today and like we have done in other matches, we can have our say against any one.

"I hope the second half of the season sees us turn the corner and if we keep this up, we can achieve some good things. There is still a long way to go this season and we must take it one game at a time.

"I hope these past results ease the pressure and bring serenity to the group because the players need that.

"It's down to us to bring the fans back to the stadium and turn any jeers into cheers. These results boost morale and we have always believed in our work.
