AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong 'not happy' with lack of first-team football

AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong says he is not happy at his lack of first-team action.

De Jong, 30, has not played for the club since the defeat to Genoa back in September, despite taking the captain's armband against Fiorentina and Empoli in the first two matches of the season.

The Netherlands midfielder played a key role in 2014-15 but has found himself frustrated at his chances this term.

"Obviously I am not happy because I am not playing," he told reporters. "But I have to wait and grab my opportunity when it comes."

Milan take on Chievo on Wednesday after a 2-1 win over Sassulo at the weekend and De Jong is confident his side can build on their form.

"The spirit in the locker room is positive, we won the last match and we have to continue with the same spirit," he added. "I like the 4-4-2 formation, but it does depend on the game and on which players are available."
