Filippo Inzaghi's future as AC Milan coach hinges on Tuesday 's Coppa Italia quarterfinal against Lazio, according to reports in Italy.

A 3-1 league defeat to the same opponents on Saturday was a third loss in four, increasing the pressure on the 41-year-old, who took charge of the Rossoneri in the summer.

Inzaghi's assistant, Mauro Tassotti, is understood to be on standby to take over as caretaker, with Milan only a point better off than they were when Massimiliano Allegri was relieved of his duties this time last year.

His prematch press conference has been cancelled as he and his players focus on the cup challenge, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Defeat on Tuesday would leave Milan with only one objective left to pursue this season -- qualifying for Europe through their Serie A placing.

Milan are 10th in Serie A, five points adrift of the top six and the Europa League places and eight behind third-placed Lazio and the Champions League.

And a Gazzetta poll showed that a majority of Milan fans feel it is time for Inzaghi to go, with some calling for Clarence Seedorf, sacked in the summer, to be reinstated.

Luciano Spalletti is thought to be favourite to replace Inzaghi if he goes, while former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli is also among the frontrunners.
